Gilbert is a town in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of Gilbert was 450. The town was incorporated in 1918. Gilbert was named after Gilbert Creek, which flows through the town. The town is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains and has a rich history of coal mining. The nearby Hatfield-McCoy Trail System offers over 700 miles of trails for outdoor enthusiasts. Gilbert is also home to the annual West Virginia Hillbilly Days Festival, which takes place in July and celebrates Appalachian culture and heritage.
